Audi has a major trick up its sleeve for 2021. The all-new e-Tron GT promises to be a major development in the world of electric cars and sports cars in general. Billed as a direct competitor to the Tesla Roadster, the e-Tron GT will purportedly hit 60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds, and the just announced RS model will be even faster.
The e-Tron is being built alongside the Audi R8 in the same factories, and it is billed as a competitor not only to Tesla but to the Porsche Taycan as well. The four electric motors will put out 590 hp, and an all-new proprietary cooling system will ensure long-term performance at high stress levels.
Not much has been revealed about the beefed-up RS version other than a title and promise of unrivaled performance, but Audi has released a very cool video of the e-Tron’s sound system, which will produce artificial engine noise to offset the otherwise silent electric motors. According to Audi, one of the biggest complaints among motorsport and sports car enthusiasts against EVs is the lack of engine noise and the feeling of power and speed that those noises provide. Therefore, the company is countering this with interior and exterior sound modules to reproduce that sense of speed.
