supernatural real-world sense as our other entries, this one holds a special place in the hearts of many Americans. While it might not be the most famous monster machine of them all, the Addam’s Family’s 1933 Packard V-12 limo is a piece for the haunted history books.
The Packard 12 was one of America’s first and finest luxury cars. It was built in 1932 to best Cadillac in the luxury car war of the day. Cadillac had been turning heads with its powerful V8, but when Packard modified one of their aircraft and marine V12s to fit an automobile, Caddy was left in the dust. The 12’s production survived the Great Depression, and not only was it the fastest car of its day, but it introduced a number of innovations that would become standard features of nearly every car today, such as the modern steering wheel.
Anyone who has any familiarity with America’s Freaky First-Family will remember butler Lurch in his too-small driving cap opening the doors of the Addams’ 12 for Morticia and Gomez to make a theatrical entrance. The car featured in the opening montage and a number of episodes throughout the years. The jet-black paint and black ragtop gave it a more hearse-like appearance than most other Packards, which mainly features white or off-white tops.
If you think the Addams Family Packard is the be-all end-all in our monster mash of the 13 Cursed Cars of Halloween, then we have a special treat for you tomorrow with our most beloved spooky street machine from out ghoulish garage. Stay tuned, dear readers, for our final car tomorrow!
